Manchester United’s Treble in 1999
1999
📅 26/05/1999
Manchester United won the Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League in 1999.
Manchester United's 1998–99 season reached a conclusion almost too dramatic for fiction. Sir Alex Ferguson's side had already won the Premier League and FA Cup when they faced Bayern Munich in the Champions League final in Barcelona. Bayern led deep into stoppage time, and United seemed destined to fall just short of an unprecedented English treble. Then Teddy Sheringham equalised and Ole Gunnar Solskjær scored the winner, turning defeat into a 2–1 victory in the closing moments. The three trophies represented achievement across an exhausting season, but the manner of the final victory ensured it became football folklore. It was a reminder that even at the highest level, the final whistle matters far more than the score with ninety minutes approaching.
