Corsham Town: One Penalty Shoot-Out from Wembley

For supporters of Corsham Town, 1 April 2023 was anything but an ordinary Saturday. The Quarrymen welcomed Ascot United to Southbank for an FA Vase semi-final, having navigated a remarkable cup run that included penalty-shoot-out victories over Brixham and Peacehaven & Telscombe. Ascot struck first, but goals from Rusby and Keet turned the tie around and sent the home crowd dreaming of Wembley. Ascot equalised, leaving the sides level at 2–2 after ninety minutes. The visitors prevailed 5–4 on penalties, ending Corsham's adventure one step short of the national stadium. The disappointment was real, but so was the achievement: a ninth-tier club had brought one of non-league football's biggest occasions to a Wiltshire town.
