The Dog Who Found the World Cup

1966

The stolen Jules Rimet Trophy was discovered by a dog called Pickles shortly before the 1966 World Cup.

In March 1966, just months before England hosted the World Cup, the Jules Rimet Trophy was stolen while on display at an exhibition in London. Despite a major police investigation, the trophy remained missing until a dog named Pickles discovered a newspaper-wrapped package while out walking with his owner, David Corbett, in south London. Inside was the missing World Cup trophy. Pickles became a national celebrity and was even invited to celebrations following England's World Cup victory later that year.
